Further to a previous bulletin we can bring you news that June 21st 2018 saw the U.S. Supreme Court make their ruling in the landmark South Dakota v. Wayfair case. The Court voted 5-4 in favour of South Dakota and thus that states can require online sellers to collect sales taxes.

U.S. companies concerned on unilateral Web tax within the EU

With the European Union planning to increase taxes on digital firms, several U.S. companies have expressed concerns that this will slow growth and hinder global efforts in establishing common solutions. “Unilateral action by the EU would seriously undermine international efforts to address tax issues,” Susan Danger, head of the American Chamber of Commerce to the EU (AmCham EU), said.

USA - Nexus Legislation in Washington State

Economic nexus legislation has been announced by the State of Washington meaning that from 1st January 2018 almost any online retailer making sales to Washington customers will have to either collect and remit retail sales tax on its sales there, or comply with reporting and notice requirements for its sales to Washington customers.
